My Shepp

What is a Shepp?

The NPCs in Palia are Majiri, a species of people who are similar in appearance and behavior to humans but with their own features and customs. Part of Majiri society involves joining a community, and in order to do so, you must have the recommendation of a mentor, known as a Shepp. The leader of Kilima Village, Eshe, asks you to find a Shepp before you can fully integrate into their community. You must reach level 4 friendship with any adult villager and then ask them to become your Shepp, sponsoring you as an official Kilima citizen.

Elouisa

I chose Elouisa to be my Shepp. I fell in love with her immediately upon playing Palia. She's a quirky, cryptid-hunting character who loves all things spooky and weird, and she fits perfectly with my love of Halloween, folklore, and exploration. Here's her official description from the Palia Almanac:

Twin sister of Caleri, Elouisa has a passion for knowledge, though she has less orthodox ways of exploring her interests. You may find her out and about exploring old ruins, and she's always excited to share her latest theories.

I mean, look at her. She wears a giant green beetle brooch and mismatched socks. I love her so much.

When you reach level 4 friendship with Elouisa, she gives you this statue of an owl-like creature called a hoosit. It's by far my favorite friendship reward in the game, which is yet another reason to love her.

Here are a few of my favorite lines of her dialogue:

  • Oh, I thought you might be a ghost.
  • There’s a thin line separating oddity from genius.
  • Let me know if you find any interesting whosits!
  • Thank you for coming around to listen to me ramble. I know it must not be easy all the time.
  • I am looking for a Leafhopper. I heard you can teach them to chirp in harmony with the proper training. An entire Leafhopper band! That sure would be something...
  • "When things are at their darkest, your light shines brightest." An old friend used to say that to me. Kilima is so beautiful at night...
